"ICE"
In Case of Emergency
In recent months
several Ambulance Paramedic Units and local police have been urging all
cell phone users to add “In case of Emergency” (ICE) contact to
their cell phone address book. Originally established as a nation-wide
campaign in the UK in response to recent terrorist attacks in London,
the ICE campaign is rapidly spreading throughout the world.
By searching the
address book for ICE, paramedics can access the cellular user’s
phone directory to contact the appropriate person if a patient is
unresponsive. In an emergency situation when a patient is unable to
communicate, the ICE directory will allow paramedics or the
police to quickly contact the next of kin or another person you wish to
be contacted. It takes only a few seconds to enter and it can possibly
save your life.
To include ICE
in your directory, simply type that contact person’s number and save the
word ICE as the name of the person you wish to be contacted. Most
phones will also allow you to put other information after the ICE, for
instance you could enter in the following manner: ICE-spouse,
ICE-son, ICE-daughter.
