The Canyon Vistas Hiking Club (CVHC) is a loosely organized group of residents who enjoy leaving the comfort of our cars and seeing the backcountry of Arizona “up close and personal”.  There are no dues, no “officers”, no quotas, and no experience necessary!

During the season we meet every Monday morning after the “Monday Coffee” and plan two hikes for the week, one on Wednesday and one on Friday.  The hikes range from “a walk in the park” to “strenuous”, with most in the “gee, that was fun” category.   Usually we try to schedule one “easy” and one “moderate” hike each week.  Generally we prefer hikes with a “reward” involved, like prehistoric ruins, a majestic view, a hidden canyon, or perhaps pretty desert flowers in season.

We stress safety and “good sense”, and each hike is well described at the meeting by an experienced hiker so that you can decide whether it matches or challenges your capability.  Each hike has a designated “tail gunner” who trails the group in case there are difficulties.

Come to our Monday meeting.  You’ll be welcomed regardless if you’re a hard-core experienced long distance hiker, or just someone looking for some companionable exercise in our beautiful Superstition mountain area.

We also have an “electronic meeting place” in the form of a Yahoo email group.  To join, send an empty email to CVHC-subscribe@yahoogroups.com and join in our online discussions.

In addition to the hikes, the Club sponsors chicken dinners monthly on the first Wednesday of the month for $5.00 per person beginning January 3, 2007.  Purchase your tickets in advance, and bring your appetite.  As with most dinners, water, coffee, and iced tea will be available.  Feel free to bring other beverages or cocktails you might wish to imbibe.
